Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport is Italy's busiest, serving over 40 million passengers per year as the primary hub for Rome and a major intercontinental gateway. The airport has four terminals (T1, T3, T5 — T2 and T4 are no longer in active passenger service), with T3 handling the majority of international arrivals.

FCO is 30 km south-west of Rome's historic centre, with transfers averaging 40 minutes via the autostrada. Roman traffic is notoriously unpredictable — pre-booked private transfers offer the most reliable arrival into the city, especially for groups heading to the Vatican area or via Veneto hotels.
