Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), also known as Leonardo da Vinci, is about 30 kilometres from the centre, roughly 40 minutes by private car on the motorway. A driver waiting in arrivals — by name, ready with your bags — is the calmest way into the city, avoiding the taxi queue and a longer train-and-walk with luggage over Rome's cobbled streets.

Most transfers head for the hotels around the historic centre — near the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and the Vatican — or the business districts of the EUR and the north.
